What I liked about Kabab King is that it offers platters with a kababs, one gravy item, a choice of yellow or black dal and choice of either roti, naan or parathas.
What I did not like was how the stewards kept urging us to try the a la carte menu. Their argument was that since we were a group of 12 people and everyone wanted to go for the platters they would not be able to bring the platters at the same time. Instead they could bring in one by one. The other argument offered was that it would take 30 minutes for the platters to arrive. I failed to understand why the restaurant has platters on its menu and is willing to accomodate over40 odd people on its premises if it does not have the capacity to serve them food at a go. Maybe they have yet to hear of a magical contraption called the microwave for heating food that has been cooked earlier in the day, a procedure followed by most restaurants.
But once you move past the annoying stewards (who incidentally managed to bring all the 10-odd platters at a go once we insisted on having those), the food is really word digging your fingers and teeth into.
I had the pathar-e-ghosth, which is mutton kababs cooked on coals and a chicken gravy which was delightfully tinged with the right amount of tomato puree without making the tanginess of the the dish overpowering.
The black dal was awesome, well cooked and not too oily.
I strongly recommend the place. And once you are there insist on the platter even if you have to hit the steward on the head to take your order.
