Good Italian Food

It was Valentine's day and I and my wife went out for lunch. With a two year old daughter and a very busy office schedule, lunch is the best we could hope for. We had read good reviews about Via Milano and hadn't got a chance to check it out, so we headed for that. Bangalore traffic has become a nightmare even during lunch time so by the time we reached Via Milano, we were famished.

Via Milano is located next to Sony World on Kormangala 80 feet road, right above the Reebok showroom. There is valet parking available. The decor of the restaurant is very chic. One side of the restaurant has couches and the other sides has usual tables. We preferred the normal table as opposed to couches because we felt that couches were more suitable for lounging with drinks and snacks as opposed to a full blown lunch.

We were in a mood for a glass of wine but the choices were very limited. Most of the good wines were available by the bottle. Since both of us had to go back to work, we picked one from the list available. Either it was my imagination or the size of glass but I felt that amount of wine was a tad less that what it should have been considering we paid upwards of Rs 220/- for a Sula white.

We ordered a mushroom lemongrass soup and vegetable salad. While we were waiting for that, we paid our attention to the bread. The bread basket was served with the usual balsamic vinegar and olive oil. There was a third edition too, some sort of chili oil. The bread was great.

The soup was served in a cup and from distance it looked like a pineapple juice or boiled moong dal but it tasted much better than either two. The salad was good although there seemed to be generous amount of olive oil in it, there goes my one week of low fat diet.

We finished our soup and salad, ate all the bread and even those breadsticks while waiting for main course. If salt and pepper shakers were eatable, we would have eaten them too because we were hungry and these guys take long time to serve food. I had ordered Chicken tortellini and my wife had ordered Penne with roasted vegetables. When we eventually got the food, we unleashed ourselves on it. Penne was good. The sauce in tortellini was a bit too rich. A little less cheese/butter would have been nicer.

I guess we forgot all about the time they take to serve food and made the mistake of ordering Tiramisu. However, it was delicious and made up for the waiting time.

Overall, we had a good time. Wish they had better choice of wine by the glass and a little healthier (lower fat) food and faster service wouldn't hurt either. We paid around 2K for two of us including tips.

Will I go again ? Sure, but I like Sunny's better.
