Having been to Sunny's a few times, I cannot but accept that they serve some of the best Italian cuisine in town, their desserts especially are to die for. They've got a knack of bringing to prominence the particular flavour that has been sought for in the dish, a case in point is one of their starters (Roast shitake & fresh mushrooms with garlic & thyme) which though low on quantity was fantastic, with the flavour bursting forth with each bite!!
Now...why would I give a place that serves such great food such a poor rating...well quite simply on account of their service. One has to but go there for a meal to experience the much-too-obvious discriminatory nature of the servers - you'd find a couple of them fawning at any table, the occupants of which evidently carry foreign passports, while expecting the 'desi' tables to be grateful that they're being served at all !!
We'd gone there for dinner and asked to be seated outside as it was a pleasant evening but realized that there were bats flying at an alarmingly low trajectory making us look around before, in the midst of, and after every bite....leading to a request to be seated inside, the response to which was a terse "nobody's been hit by the bats, so what's your problem?"...ahem...excuse me, but I'm one of the guys who's putting the bread in your basket dude!!!!! This and a couple of other such exchanges has got me swearing off this place...though it means losing out on some swell food..but what the heck...I prefer going to places like Via Milano, Fiorano's, etc where the service is indeed with a smile..and one comes back with one's dignity intact!!
I'm not a 100% sure on this but I think they add on the service charge at a fixed rate, denying one the opportunity to 'penalize' them..!!
