Last Thursday a bunch of us from work decided to eat diner together. We called up Barbeque Nation, Samarkand and the likes but tables weren't available till 9:30 pm. Suddenly we remembered Angeethi and they were available. I suspect that all the nice places are busy because of Business Dinners and since Angeethi doesn't have the upscale ambiance, its easier to get a reservation.
Anyways, I have been to Angeethi lots of times for lunch but not very often for dinner. We ordered chicken kebabs, mutton chops and some veggie stuff which I conveniently ignored. The mutton chops in Angeethi are the best that I have had almost anywhere. The meat is soft, juicy and the spices are great. Don't miss them if you like mutton. Combine that with chilled beer and you are talking nirvana.
The main course was Dhaba Chicken (chicken cubes in spicy gravy), dal tadka and a paneer dish that I again didn't pay any attention to. The chicken was great as well and combined with the hot tandoori rotis, it was perfect. One point about rotis at Angeethi. They are whole wheat rotis (like they should be) and dough doesn't have maida like lots of other hotels in Bangalore.
I loved the place. It is not a place where one would like to go for a date or for business dinners but fantastic place to go with friends and family and enjoy the food. BTW, if you are a vegetarian, the food isn't out of the world there. My recommendation is based on non-veg food.
Avoid the paan there. Regulars at Angeethi do not eat the paan offered there because they charge obscene amount for that. Just come down to the street and buy it from the shop right next to Empire. The pans there are great.
