I had gone to My Bar on Sunday with a few of my friends while we were coming back from Gurgaon to Noida. We had heard a lot about My Bar being the cheapest place to drink and did want to give it a try. So at 12 pm on a Sunday morning when most of the bachelors don't even wake up, we raised our mugs to the zero productive day we were going to have.
I wouldn't comment much on the decor as there is almost none. There are high royal chairs which look grand but are specially creaky and uncomfortable when you sit on them. The have couches too in the smoking area but the manager reserves them for the high and mighty and even though we were interested in sitting there (the chairs actually suck), he refused to let us. Even at 12 pm this place was crowded and was actually full. They have very good speakers which blare continuously with English Rock Music. While many people find this irritating, I actually love loud songs especially when the songs are the ones I can sing along with.
We had ordered a tower filled with draught beer which was priced pretty modestly and a peg of whisky - Black Dog 12 yrs for each of us. With this we ordered peanuts and my friend had read somewhere that they serve good omelette as well. We ordered their Cheese and Tomato Omelette which led to the waiters giving us a quizzical look. Doubting the read now, we ordered only two of them as the rest said they were not very hungry.
The omelette was pretty good, it was fluffy and had good amount of cheese in it. In addition to that they also gave a sauce which went really well with it. The masala peanuts were pretty average. They had soaked the peanuts in water and wasn't very dried when mixed with the masala and onions.
So after we called for the bill, a few of the waiters started courteously asking us if the meal was good and if the beer was up to the mark. We were pretty surprised as no bar generally does this, especially if they are so full. Then one of them started telling that the management was pretty horrid and that they didn't get the money the restaurant got as service tax and service charge. The others soon joined in and before we knew it, 2-3 waiters were actually arguing about why we should tip them. As it was no one's treat and a contri party, we had paid in cash and the waiters refused to give us back the change which as about eighty bucks. Not wanting to fight anymore as we had to be elsewhere we left the restaurant but were extremely disappointed with what had happened.
When we went downstairs, we were amazed to see a huge queue for getting in. It was almost as if it was a celebrity party and the usher determined if people could get in or get out. In My Humble Opinion this place does serve cheap booze but the other factors are too shabby to be even rated.
Cost for 5 - Rs. 2000/-
