Pathetic service

Took my family to Radhani at Expess avenue chennai this Sunday evening for dinner.. Was totally disappointed with the service and courtesy of the staff out there.. We had to keep reminding them like some 5- 6 to serve us each dish. Could clearly see the racism and poor attitude of the staffs. Had the worst restaurant experience so far..

"Best meal I experienced!"

We went to for watching movie in afternoon without having lunch at home, we saw the letters Rajdhani by which we taught it is something special about Delhi, when we visited this place, we thought it was an amazing place for us in my experience, where it resembles not only rajdhani food but about all states like Gujarat, marwari, etc. with good aroma. we found a different angle experience especially in servicing which was very fast and excellent in all angles. the courtesy shown is really impressive.

Sadly, Not as Great as Rajdhani's in Other cities :(

I have dined at Rajdhani, in cities other than Chennai. I must say I have had an awesome experience(food and service wise) and repeatedly visited them.

So, naturally, since its in Chennai, I keep telling my parents, that they must try Rajdhani at least once. Convincing your parents to come out, eat and head back home, is the hardest thing I have had to.
The vegetarian month of Purattasi (Tamil month, mid Sep - mid Oct), world vegetarian day and the buy one get one offer at Rajdhani gave me some strong convincing points, to get them out of the house to eat.

I seized the opportunity and headed to the Express Avenue, Rajdhani outlet. The restaurant was crowded on a Monday night (due to the offer I guess) Still we managed to find a four table and sat there with high hopes.

The waiters were not dressed in turbans or any rajasthani clothes. It looked more like a executive set up in Chennai as everyone wore full handed shirts and formal pants.

There were no waiters near our table. After some time, few waiters hurriedly served us churma , daal baati, and very minimal quantity of the side dishes.
There were 2 glasses, but we weren't served any drinks until we asked.
The daal baati was very average. Churma was okay.
After some time, they decided to serve rotis. So we got poori, methi thepla and roti. The poori was very dark. It was obviously over fried. The rotis were soft and consistent. The methi thepla was good.
Subzis were cabbage peas sukhi, paneer pasanda, aloo subzi, ghatte ki subzi. I didn't try the sweet subzis as I do not have a sweet tooth.
Cabbage peas sukhi subzi was okay. Nothing great.
Paneer pasandha : None of our plates had paneer, even when it was refilled.
Aloo subzi - Tasted really good.
Ghatte ki subzi - Ghattee were very hard. I usually love this subzi. But I couldn't eat it more than once.

Sweets served were malpua , gulab jamun and kesari. Except kesari. All sweets were top notch. Malpua was brilliant.

Oh I forgot, the glasses remained empty till the end. So when they served chaas to the next table, I couldn't resist and I asked for Chaas. Chaas was pretty average. Usually its mind blowing in Rajdhani.

Service: What do I say. We were not served at all. We had to repeatedly ask for rotis, subzi refills, sweets, rice etc. Every dish we had to search for a waiter. Even if we ask, it took some time for them to attend us. People in the table just next to us were served brilliantly (probably some big shot, I even saw the manager personally asking them what refill they want)
Plus the waiters speak over here. No concept of maintaining silence and serving you brilliantly well. I am not even sure if they served us everything on the menu.
And, since its Chennai, they keep pushing you for rice, even if you continuously ask for Rotis (I would excuse them on this, since I actually saw too many people wanting rice refills more often)

Being a Buy one get one offer day, I did not expect great food and service. But I did not expect below average food and bad service either.

It upsets you more, when you recommend a restaurant(or in this case, a reputed chain) highly and it turns you down in every aspect that you've praised - Food , Service, Quantity, Quality, Atmosphere.

I've heard this from many friends of mine before. But I refused to believe it. Since I've had a similar experience, now I too am saying, "Rajdhani in Chennai lacks the service, food and atmosphere, they highly maintain in their other city outlets".

My review is entirely based on the Buy One Get One offer day. I am sure it will be at least 40% (or more) better on regular days.

Food - 3/5
Service - 2/5 (Considering a Rajdhani experience)
Ambiance - 2/5
VFM - 3.5/5 (Since it was a buy one get one offer)

Great!!

Being a hardcore non-vegetarian I was a bit reluctant to step in here. But dragged along by my veggie friend. But to my surprise I really loved it. They had managed to get all the essentials right. Food was TASTY, it was served HOT, and there were NO DELAYS. For the price that we payed, I was more than happy with my dining experience. And now I don't mind going again!!

Thalis

This is one of the best places in city to have a perfect vegan meal . They have so items on the menu and one gets confused to choose but trust me the thalis are always great there . The service is so awesome but remember this place being located in a mall is most of the times crowded especially the weekends . Parking available .

Lots of dishes I must say

The minute you walk in, you are blown away by the hospitality on show. The service is brilliant and they treat every customer like a star. There are a million items on the menu but most of them are sweets. I can understand that coming from a Rajasthani side of things. Most of the items on the menu were new to me but I enjoyed eating every dish. There are also a lot of subjis to eat along with the unlimited Rotis and Pooris. After an extremely full quota of food, the bill is a surprise considering the number of items on the menu. Definitely worth the visit and worth the price we paid.

Awesome thalis!

Having been to the rajdhani in Mumbai, I was super happy on seeing one in Chennai. Planned my visit in such a way that im super hungry which would enable me to eat everything they had to offer!

The place is well done and nicely lit up.

Opted for the rajasthani thali and once the food started coming, it was like a barrage of food. Went on forever. From the snacks to the rotis to the pooris to the sabzis to the drinks! It was one culinary journey!

The service is prompt and they refill your plate on a regular basis.

Cant help but give this place a 5/5

Tasty but pricey!

There is nothing to comment about the food here because heavenly is the word for the meal that was offered to me. The number of dishes is sure to baffle you and your head is sure to go a full circle when you think of finishing the meal. The service is really friendly and the waiters are wonderful too.

A King's meal

Rajdhani thali always reminds me of the big king's meal they serve in Jodhaa Akbar.
As soon as you are seated, you find yourselves surrounded with a million items in your place .
Cuisine is Rajasthani and true to its name, its fabulous
Their service is also fantastic, fast and responsive
Go with an empty stomach and eat as many rotis and pooris as you
can eat with a million subjis added with some jaljeeras and lassi
You just cant miss this place .. Should experience this atleast once..

Horrible service and very bad food

We had been to Rajdhani last night at 7.30 PM EA Mall chennai. We had a great time two years back. So went their with lot of expectations. The food was just very bad... Oily paneer butter masala, dhals were just repetition with some jaggery and grapes, just cabbage saute curry, the green chutney spoiled, the first round of rotis were cold. the next round never came until we all had no choice to start on the cold rice, the custard had bad fruits, Very very delayed service, we had to ask thrice for every item and still wait..the butter served on the chapati was spoiled sour . , no stock of sweets, chum chum out of stock... So half a gulab Jamoon each was served and then it became out of stock, jilebis is out of stock, then they said the dough has gone bad... they said they will make new dough and bring and we washed hands... they bring jilebi after 15 mins and the server bangs the cutori with jilebis made from old dough was spoiled rotted, triranga sweets with sheera, gajar, something was soso, kewar and rabid I was full of hydrogenated fat... All of us including my teenage boys who can stomach the tough foods have sore throat n stomach upset within few hours... Serious attention is needed to revamp the operations at Rajdhani...please don't go even if you are offered 1for1 unless someone confirms... Food and service is ok again like before... It was Thursday night dinner

turning veg for a meal!

Let me start by saying im a PURE non vegetarian!
With the important information being given, ill proceed....my good friend being a maru(thats how we call him) suggested that we go to rajdhani- pure veg( as there where no other options in EA he thought-Seesh)....
I just shut my eyes waiting to criticize anything that came forward on a plate, but unfortunately my plan dint go as i had thought....the thali was good just too much, felt like a pig being fed for slaughter(no offence), but really guys even my mom wont force me to eat so much just too many options! :)
And i really have to mention the abundance of GHEE flowing generously!
I had a good time and so would like to finish of by saying go to Rajdhani and raise your hand for more, more and a lot more good homely food!( make sure to wear nothing too constraining:P)

gluttony galore!

Enter this place if you are ready to hog your way to glory. but if you are the diet concious type.. better find something else!
The thali here is 4-5 course in itself and every course can be a meal in itself, atleast to me.
It can be noisy and busy here, and staff may get engaged on other table.. so you'll have to be patient. But once you have the staff's attention, things run real fast.
They food is totaly sumptous and rich! If you are inquisitive to what you are being served, i'd suggest dont bother .. for its tasty, and for the guy who served is in rush as well.
So, if you walked the lengths of EA mall and are starving.. just enter Rajdhani.. and you'll be fed so well that walking out may be tougher ! :)

Going pathetic Call up and go

Visited the place on third march for lunch. second visit. Since they keep changing the menu every day I chose the weekend before I went on a Thursday and a public holiday. The place seems to be losing its focus. I got seated pretty easily because I was alone and pretty early.
The service was erratic right from word go. The mandatory power cut of 2hours was in force at 1.30pm. The entire restaurant had just two pedestal fans and you are lucky if you get seated anywhere near them. Mind you it's chennai summer just the beginning of summer and it was terrible without fans.
The supervisors, two of them are focused only on large groups. If you are sitting in center they can't miss serving you.
The entire food court had airconditioning and to rajdhani quite strange.
To the people who run this place please add fans and don't lose focus in service. No use having a thali counter please give good service. Poor rating for lack of ventilation and given days poor menu.

Doesn't stand to its reputation

After pampered by Rajdhani in any other city like Mumbai, you will be enticed to enter this restaurant located on the top floor of Express Avenue mall than to experiment with any other local chain in the always crowded food court. I have seen service and hygiene to be of the worst standard than anywhere else in India. In a small space they have cluttered as many chairs as possible. The hygiene is a serious problem, watch out your plate, cutlery and table next time you are there-the same person who assists you in washing your hands serves food. Quality of food isn't good either as in other cities. Consider yourself lucky if you get everything on time; in spite of such a bad service, the restaurant is full because this being the only restaurant in the food court. Last time when we were there, we decide to leave without even finishing our food; Not worth paying 350 for a thali. A MUST MUST AVOID FOR WEEKEND WHEN ITS EVEN MORE OVER CROWDED

Food so divine

The 1st time i visited this restaurant was on the day of the launch. Was at EA with 2 friends and we hopped in for dinner!! It was divine.... I enjoyed the food but felt i couldn't do justice to the number of dishes served...

The second time i took my grandparents & parents here for lunch and watching them devour the food, savoring every bite was worth the visit...

3rd time, yes I've been here numerous times which shows how much i enjoy the food.. this time it was my Birthday dinner with close friends... :)

And the 4th & most recent visit was on 1st Jan with entire family, we were about 10 of us. I called ahead to make a reservation, but the man who answered politely told me they don't take bookings and that waiting time is only about 5-10minutes...

The food is a fixed thali menu, one that changes everyday and is served as many times as you like.. Yes, it is unlimited. As soon as you walk towards the hotel, you can see the number of people waiting outside.. but trust me when i say the wait is no more than 10minutes, no matter how big a group you are...

From the minute you are seated to the signing on the bill, it is all done so seamlessly, i was amazed the 1st time i saw the whole process unfold.. The waiters are not yelling to each other, there is no talking, heck, no calling out to others. Each one is assigned to a particular dish and they keep bringing it around. If you tell them you want a particular dish, all they do is signal in the air and within seconds you are served. From the Dhokla, Corn kachori to Kichidi, side dishes, everything is piping hot. I love their Daal, Gatte ki sabzi, rotis, mithai, and well everything else in between as well. The food is not only filling, but also light and filled with flavour....

Oh, not to forget, the thali comes at a very affordable price.. Less than Rs300 per person, incl Tax!

Hats off to the team and here's wishing them all the best!! :-)

pampered feeling

I had been wanting to visit this place for many months and finally
decided to make it today. Thought weekday lunch it wont be crowded
but i had one group of 18 asking for a table and so many others waiting for a table.
since i had gone alone i was given a seat immediately.
It was crowded but my god once the plate and cups were placed the boys worked like factory engineers in filling the plate and cups. They serve you untiringly and pleasantly.
The ultimate experience was washing your hands after the sumptuous meal.
A bowl is brought with flower pot like ancient type vessel and water is poured over your hand(ancient finger bowl i suppose) It gives a royal feel. I felt like i have had a feast in a palace(minus the palace ambiance)
GOOD FOOD(TASTY, HOT, FRESH and unlimited)
Though it is pricey they pamper you literally.
Lastly the service was top notch and pleasant. Turn around time was 222222222good.
Will surely visit again.

Awesome rajasthani cuisine

if you wish to try authentic Rajasthani cuisine, this is the place to visit. Awesome food, quick service and not very expensive. The average thali is around Rs. 350-375 and unlimited food.

the servers and the restaurant managers use signs to get the dishes served at your table as per your request. This ensures that there is no noise in the restaurant. good thought. Saves energy.

it's too crowded on weekends. You need to go bit early on those days to get your place. have gone there thrice and never returned dissatisfied.

Excellent

Being a person quite guarded with compliments, I surprise myself with saying this place is excellent. The variety of food is good and the taste awesome and fresh. I went with my punjabi friend who was homesick. Man! u should've seen the smile on her face - she said she felt at home there. And me after a few days of surviving on corn flakes and noodles was only too happy with the food. The waiters only click their fingers to get their colleagues attention and try as much to avoid talking. Also it feels like you are visiting relatives as they cajole you into having one more roti or sweet. The price can be reduced as items are served with ghee and you fill up faster than you realize. Try to see if u can check this place out on a weekday afternoon. Usually very crowded on weekends because of the shopping crowd. But this place is NOT to be missed. I wanted to congratulate the manager that day, but if the management is reading this, great work you guys! keep it up :)

We had been there last sunday. The best gujrati-rajasthani thali in Chennai. The food was superb, service extremely courteous. We had to wait for almost half-hour, but it was worth the wait. Yummy on the tummy!

Went here for a friend's bday treat and whoa they knock you out with the excellent food and courtesy! The thali that is tha main attraction here rightly deserves its place of pride in the menu! Forget about asking for anything else! We did not! The food was endless! Here goes!
Salad, starter, 2 gravies, 5 subjis, buttermilk and endless servings of puri, pulka, not to forget the moong dal khichdi and kadhi, cur rice, sweet too, choice of kheer, halwa, jamun! All this for the amount they charge is a steal!
If there was a rating above excellent I would have given that!

Simply the best thali joint - Others plz learn!

I have been to many thali joints in chennai... But I can surely say that this is the best authentic thali (Gujju and rajasthani) in chennai.. Simply great.. Mind blowing service too..Even the ambience is pretty good..
The waiter was pressurising my wife to eat more phulkhas infact.. never seen a service like that before in chennai from any stand alone restaurant(apart from the 5*'s)
I wish other restaurant owners in Chennai would visit this joint to learn what true service and authenticity is all about!
