It not Chinese, its not IndoChinese, it HPC

I could just say, its good, go eat, but that probably does not qualify for as a review.
HPC has a menu that looks like a Vikram Seth book. Plenty of pages which will take a couple of months to read if you make a full time job of it.
Everytime I go there I just do the 'inky pinky ponky' thing on the menu and ask them to bring the dishes. And surprisingly I have always found the food to be quite nice. The variations on dish x and dish y might not be great, but they sure as heck taste good. I think these guys have found a zen (a reviewer used the "zen" term to describe the ambience..... and I agree with him/her) way of cooking food where everything just tastes good, no matter what they call it or how they cook it.
If you live/work in OMR or the Velachery area, I recommend this place, actually I HIGHLY recommend it.

HPC Chinese

This place has the potential for zen like peacefulness with all its buddha murals and beautiful paintings on the wall and the dim hanging lamps over the tables.
We ordered
Lemon Coriander Soup - it was a thick soup with nice flavoring of lemon in at and finely crushed/ chopped coriander leaves and vegetables
Baby Corn Schezwan Chilly- Crispy friend baby corn sauteed in a schezwan chilly sauce and very Indo- Chinese.
Pan Fried Noodles in Schezwan Sauce - The noodles looked more like it was a soya sauce and not the red color schezwan sauce we are normally used to but even this tasted nice but not all that schezwan-ny .

Best Chinese Restaurant in Chennai!!

This place has been in the news for the right reasons. It is by far, the best Chinese restaurant in Chennai!!!!

The first time I went there, I was with my family. My mother in law who just finishes with Dosa when we frequent out, had a delight that night at Dinner.

The ambience welcomes you with dim light and sizzling aromas. The tables are set at good distance from each other and therefore we can smell just what we have!

The " on the house" tea and short eats are sinfully good, with the carrots soaked in vinegar like base. Dont miss it!

You can do away with your usual chinese restaurants' " problem of plenty" since here the portions are suggested and served in a personalised manner. Half portions of different varieties of dishes is my take.

The people waiting on you have hands on knowledge on the menu and aptly suggest the right side dish for the right course of food. Of course, you will find the simple and smiling owners of the restaurant overseeing and ensuring a delightful dinner for you.

Do not miss the Fried ice cream for anything in the world. It is a make to order dish, so you have to wait, but trust me, you ll not stop with one :)

I have been there so many times for various occasions and each time, HPC has lived up to its reputation.

Chennai, Chinese has finally arrived :)

Impressive and Courteous. Nice food and Experience

I decided to visit this place yesterday night after seeing decent reviews here. Took my wife along with me. Was surprised to see that the parking problem at told by the previous review was no more as they have their parking in the next compound in a church.

The ambience was great with chinese motifs highlighted here and there. My wifey liked design of hanging lights on the table. I personally liked all the buddha paintings, especially the colorful one near the bill counter there. First shot we were impressed.

Menu: Sure shot winner. They have a huge variety in veg and non veg. If you are the one who goes to a chinese restaurant expecting gobi manchurians and stuff this is not the restaurant for you for they serve authentic Chinese and not indo-chinese stuff here. As highlighted by the other reviewer they have even half portions of starters/ soups/ main course and rice n noodles. And believe me they serve decent quantities even for the half portion. Me and my wife ordered half portions of a noodle and a rice and we were not able complete the noodle as the rice itself was in decent quantity. They have a good variety of desserts and mock tails too. Normally when we two go out to a restaurant we tend to share the food. but since they give half portions we were able to eat a lot of variety , which was a big plus.

The food and taste: The konji crispy potato was awesome. Buttered cauliflower was sort of ok ish ( the cauliflower was not fully soft as i expected). the veg balls in devils sauce was spicy and awesome. The tsing hoi egg fried rice was good too with all the corn and stuff and a bit spicy too, to our liking. the soups were decent too. lemon soda was the killer!!!. Thumbs up

The experience:
Was wonderful. we were made to sit comfortably. given that this joint has opened only a month ago there were decent amount of people already coming in. We were given information about the menu and its composition when ever we had doubt. The food came to us in quick time too. The water they served was chill and i personally like restaurants when they serve nice n chill water rather than pressing us to get a bottled on. The water was filled promptly. the dishes were cleared impeccably when ever we finished. The staff were also courteous and asked us how we liked their food . We got to fill in a review form too at the end of our meal. over all it was a decent and good experience.......

Things to work upon: I would prefer them to have all the deserts listed on the menu, as there were only a select few available yesterday. it is a bit disappointing to not to finish off at a high note when you had a satisfied meal from their kitchen. probably they are working on it, though the lemon soda was a show stealer.

2. i would also prefer them to have a few indochinese menus like cauliflower manchurian or our own desi panner manchurian for those who come to have some indo-chinese stuff not to go back disappointed.

3. i would also like them to introduce some cauliflower dish in main course side dishes as apart from the veg balls they have only boiled veg stuffs mostly

price:

moderate. it costed us Rs 512 for two of us, as we wanted to have a lot of variety

ratings: 3.75 out of 5

repeat visits and recommendations: Definitely will recommend and visit again

Average!!

Being very close to my office, I have visited this place quite a number of times. I must say that this place was initially very good. But with time, the taste of food has deteriorated. Ambiance is good. Food is average. The juices and mocktails are really bad. Considering there are no other good restaurants nearby, it would be great if they get back to how they were.

The BEST Chinese Food I ever had!

Hot Pot China is located in Perungudi, quite near where we stay. It has just opened recently and since me and my husband are big fans of Chinese, we were eyeing it since the past few days. Today I had the chance to actually go there for dinner. The ambience is very warm and pleasing and the Waiters are very friendly and welcoming. We ordered Dim Sums for starters and TRUST ME, those were THE BEST dim sums I EVER TASTED!! OMG, they were just HEAVENLY!! My husband ordered Chic Sweet corn soup and it was pretty good too. For main course, we ordered Chicken Slices in Pepper-Garlic Gravy wanted to order Chicken Fried Rice, but the waiter suggested another variation of Fried Rice, something with Garlic and Sweet corn, we relented and ordered it. The food was SO GOOD!! I LOVED it!! The waiters are so helpful in suggesting dishes!! I can still feel the taste of those dim sums and the Chic Slices in Pepper-Garlic Gravy....God, I sooooo wanna go there again tomorrow! Loved the place!!

Top notch place for chinese food lovers

I have been visiting Hot Pot China regularly since they opened couple of months back. I live in Perungudi and am really overjoyed for the fact that we have such a great Chinese restaurant right next to our doorstep. Earlier we used to go to Velachery or Adyar for a good Chinese food experience but not anymore. Hot pot China is much better(IMHO). I would highly recommend Pan fried noodles and the pan fried dim sums. I am leaving Chennai soon and among other things that I will miss about Chennai, Hot pot will surely be on top of my list.

Great food!!..Reasonable price!!

I must say..I LOVED it all.. The Soup, Appetizers, Main course and Dessert !!! I have been here twice and i enjoyed the food. The pleasant ambiance and good service are additional positives. Usually when i go to a restaurant, I am left disappointed with at least one course of the meal, but that was not the case here. The people taking the order are well aware about the dishes and their preparation, which is not the case in most other restaurants, is appreciable. In the appetizers. My favorite was the Crispy fried fish with golden garlic. If you are a fan of chocolate, then don't miss the Chocolate Brownie here. The best aspect though is that the prices here, compared to other restaurants of similar standard, are reasonable and the food is worth the money. I hope the quality and prices continues to remain this way. I will definitely keep going to this place often and I strongly recommend this place to everybody who enjoy good Chinese food while not burning a hole in their pockets!!!

Scrumptious chinese food

I went for lunch with my colleagues. The ambiance was really good with light Chinese music. Food(Veg and Non-Veg) was really tasty and very satisfying.
Soup varieties were really nice. Lemon coriander chicken soup was delicious. It would be nice to have more choices on ice-creams. Service was good.

A great time out

HPC is a great venue for authentic Chinese cuisine. The food is very much Chinese style especially the starters, be it the dumplings, fried prawns or other items. The starters groom your appetite for savouring the main course.

Most of the items especially the prawn items are tasty, less spicy and a gourmand's delight. Even the gravy is a treat along with the cooked pieces of prawn or chicken. It spruces up the palette and leaves a lingering taste. Not to say one would definitely be compelled to ask for more and carry out along with dine in! The Basil and lime chicken and Siumai Chicken are delicious. A little less punch of chilly in basil and lime chicken would definitely be better. The food is definitely not the run of the mill type and feels different.

Coupled with some prompt and caring service the experience feels binding. One way to improve could be to formalize the service as in Oriental Pavilion or Flower Drum and allow more time to the guests. Speed and Delicacy could be intertwined more beautifully. The waiters should carry a little more sophistication in their demeanor. Quantity v/s Quality mix could be improved in some items to provide even better value for money. These are some off the cuff remarks and are just suggestions in spirit.

Our first visit to HPC was quite remarkable since we hooked onto your brand since September. Good team and scrumptious food. Highly recommended.

Nishant & family.

Real Good Chinese

Me & my friends had been noticing this new restaurant tucked right at the corner on our way back from the office and thought of giving it a try.The decor looks classy with Buddha, wind chimes and little candles..all your Feng-shui stuff! The Menu is exhaustive, considering the fact they serve only Chinese. We tried a few Dimsums and a lemon coriander soup and they were very well-done. Both the veg & non-veg items were equally tasty. The waiters are very polite and well-informed. They were clear about the ingredients used. The best part was when we went on ordering lots of fried rice and noodles for the main course, he stopped us and advised saying this could be ample and might get wasted. He told about the Chinese culture of not wasting food and guided us in the ordering. We were very impressed about this part since we don't see this kinda behavior in much of our Chennai outfits.
Over all, the food is great. The dessert variety is a bit less and expensive.

Good Luck, Hot Pot China..
Good Job.. and Keep it up!!

Awesome...

I use to cross this Hot Pot China (HPC) restaurant everyday when I go to office, I always wanted to try HPC. Got a chance to try this place on 13/11/2011 for a lunch with my office friends.
Ambience is good with candles and Buddha paintings. The taste of the food is exotic. And the service is great. This is little far from my office. I can go for door delivery, but dont wanna miss the service. American Chicken Chopsey, Tsing Hoi Chicken fried rice, Schezwan fried rice is good. Prawn fried rice is ok, would prefer little more tasty and prawns. Have to visit this place many times to try all the dishes they have in the menu card. Overall im impressed and i would recommend this place... :)

average

I ordered a prawn noodles and a chopsuey from this place.

the taste of the prawn noodles was ok but there were hardly any prawns in it. I've eaten much tastier prawn noodles in restaurants like Canton in nungambakkam where it's not only cheaper but there were also SO MUCH MORE PRAWNS in the noodles. the chopsuey again i felt was just average in taste.

i was really looking forward to this place after all the reviews here but have to say I didn't find anything special.

Good Chinese Food in Chennai

This is a wonderful place to hang out , excellent ambiance , good chinese food cooked to the proper consistency , I have been to this place for nearly 7 times from the week they opened this restaurant, Trust me if you are a real chinese food ( indo- chinese ) lover you will be addicted to this place. Variety of deserts can be improved (like mooncake ( which i have tasted in many places outside India) ) .This place is worth for every single paisa you pay from your pocket. Service -9/10; Ambiance -10/10; Food- 9/10; parking -1/10 ( Park you car in Hi Style and come here to eat , they have a huge parking space with none to park).

Excellent Service, Good Food

After having tried Chinese at the Oriental Pavilion, Canton's Beach Palm, Minar, Basera, Cascade in Chennai I would definitely recommend Hotpot Perungudi. We planned to visit but first made an order for home delivery. We did not make it due to lack of parking space at the restaurant premises.

My first interaction showed how HPC service and customer care is good. They called me back after having missed my call- something very rare these days! They took the order diligently and without fail, delivered the same on time, smoking hot and neatly packaged. The billing was elaborate and they did not bother us for seeking directions to our home.

The items we tried were the Hunan prawns, Spicy chicken, Basil chicken, Chicken hakka noodles and Fried rice. Quantity v/s Quality mix was overall decent, though prawns are exorbitantly priced. My suggestion is to have more prawn dishes and reasonable pricing for prawns. This is where some restaurants will score over HPC. However, Rs. 300-400/person should be good enough for a sumptuous meal at Hot Pot.

Good work Guys! Kudos to COO and the entire team.

A sweet surprise

Just noticed this place when we stopped at the Perungudi signal and thought of giving it a try since me n my friends are die hard fans of chinese food. It was indeed a pleasant surprise. The food and the ambience was very good. It was surprising when they said thy serve kinley water on table instead of pushing for mineral water. The food was good and I especially loved their Buttered cauliflower and chicken pan friend dumplings. The entire experience was satisfying. On the downside, they have to publicize this place and the entrance of the restaurant is a bit confusing and they have to indicate the entrance properly. Highly recommended.

A WHOLE NEW DINING XPERIENCE - really TRUE

I get to cross this junction at perungudi everyday and had been noticing the sign ~COMING SOON~ for a while now, got to know it was a Chinese cuisine and decided to drop in for dinner sterday, it was a new dining experience for sure – the extensive choice of sumai and wonton on the menu is really good and impressive. Having turned a vegetarian recently – their widespread menu for veggie lovers is worth mentioning for they have a wide option to choose from- LOVED THE FOOD. But, had a lill strain to find a parking spot adjacent to the restaurant and would ve found it helpful if the PARKING facility had been marked.

Price is too much

Hi,

I like the taste and quality of the food and also the service at HPC.
But my only concern is the price. Definitely it is not affordable. For example a Hunan prawn full contains only 6 pieces of regular size, but its price is Rs. 225.

Atleast they can cut down the price by 20%.

Fantastic Food,Awesome Ambiance, Super Service

Fantastic Food,Awesome Ambiance, Super Service- On the whole is called Hot Pot China. I've been to this place. This is one of the best place to have the Chinese foods. They serve the food in the real Chinese flavors. The people who serve the food are really pleasing and kind. Hospitality is wonderful. The food items were really good and tasty.. the quantity is huge for the price they have(Less Price for more Quantity- Value for Money) and Of course I've been to this place for 3 times and I've never seen there is a change in the quality. They are keeping up the quality, in fact to say they are increasing the quality day by day. Also I could see they are very perfect in serving the food and also before taking the order, they are suggesting the food based on our taste and also suggesting how much quantity the food will be. This really help us to chose the correct quantity(I don't like to waste the food generally.. this really help us all not to waste the food). Really appreciated. And also I would say I could see lot of varieties in the Menu(Giving more choice to the customers. Different people have different taste. they prepared the menu based on this I guess) I would suggest On the whole Hot Pot China is the very good place to visit and spend time with your family or friends. This is really a good place for us in OMR.

Thanks to the team and All the best.. Keep rocking.

Excellent food and service

When I recently visited Chennai, I had the opportunity to try this restaurant. The service was excellent along with food. Providing hot tea and kimchi for all guests is a nice touch. I went on a culinary excursion in Chennai trying various restaurants over a period of three weeks, I must say that there is no restaurant that serves this much amount of meat for such low prices anywhere in the city.
Good job guys, keep it up.

Shìk?u xìng h?o - Palatable!

I've tried a lot of restaurants mainly for Asian cuisines, this one was a surprise package! I certainly did underestimate quite a few things. My experience with the restaurant was on a Saturday with a friend. Chinese cuisine here in India apart from other Asian is quite liked about and this place would not disappoint you! Not authentic I would say but again very few places are actually because the vegetables and ingredients used for cooking in China would not be the same as we get here!

I'm very specific when it comes to eating and the Restaurants I want to try; HPC was good! Hope it stays the same!

Food - Both the Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian menu is extensive! The menu has been nicely worked on and gives you the extra tinge of excitement when you are hungry! The tea served was pleasing.. Not to forget the cucumber in sweetened vinegar base with the cabbage soaked in bean sauce! Muaah!!

Starters
We had prawn gwoh tip (steamed dim-sum) and Chicken Beijing boat (steamed dim-sum) for starters along with Egg yolk soup
The dim-sums are delicious! Loved it! The chili in olive oil given as a dip for the dim-sums are like woaah!!
Portions served were good

Main Course
For the main order we tried Mixed meat fried rice and Prawn in hunan sauce!
Fried rice and the side order were okay.
Portions were good.

Dessert
This was good! We tried out the Chocolate brownie with ice cream which was like Wooow! Probably because I haven't tried it before!

This was definitely not the first time I had come to eat! Also, if you're thinking of eating here, try out the varied dim-sums offered and the Egg-shing ho fried rice, prawn pan fried noodles and others!

Again, a surprise package it was for us and we loved it!

Avoidable

Hot Pot China should be taken literally. You'll be made to wait over 45 mins for your food in a boiling hot cauldron of a seating area (dark and with air conditioners set to 32??). The food has a definite andhra bent to it. Although the rice was alright, you'll get some extremely spicy gravies. No matter what you order will taste of chilli and pepper.

Fortunately, the damage to the wallet is suprisingly minimal. But, it's still a waste of money and time. Don't go here.

Average food

Myself n my collegues used to try out different restaurants in OMR on every friday for lunch. . On one fine friday we choose HPC . . Listing down the pros n cons
Pros:
1. Food was really good.
2. Ambience was good
Cons
1. The time they take to prepare ur food ( We had to wait for 45 mins to get started)
2. The A/C is horrible. Even after requesting the hotel ppl to chk out on that several times, we were still in HOT POT, which made us less concerned abt the food and we were like get out of the place asap.
3. A bit overpriced.

We are happy that you enjoyed the food and we are sorry that you had to wait a little longer and that the temperature was high. issues with regard to ACs have since been fixed, and we usually take about 20 to 25 mins to serve the food, as all the food is made to order and not pre prepared. However, we have taken steps to make the delivery of food faster during peak rush times. Do visit us again and i can assure that your next visit will be pleasing and memorable.

Regards,
Team HPC

Avoid - quality of food questionable

We used to frequently eat at HPC as it is very close to our place and food was great until one day they served us a chicken dish that had rotten taste. When we told the steward about it, he insisted that the dish is supposed to taste like that. We asked him to taste it which he did not. We sent the dish back. A little later another person came and apologised and acknowledged that the chicken had gone bad. He offered to get us any other dish we would like but we had lost appetite by then. Even though they did not charge us for that dish, we were left with an awful taste and bitter experience. We never returned to the place and have been asking friends to avoid HPC. It's a pity because we loved the ambience and the variety on the menu.

it's my favourite

A restaurant with amazing food, a lovely place to visit again, HPC is all this and much more. Far from customer complaints, under the soft light, it has carved a fine business for itself that has kept its customers, both young and old, hooked forever.
Its geniality is overpowering as is its finesse that overflows from the delicious food that it lovingly serves. The HPC experience that tugs at our heart-strings is brilliant in its appeal.

Neat and affordable

Neat little place with lot of variety to experiment. I like the different starter options, unusual and unique unlike the normal Chinese fare.
Ambiance is nice with slow Chinese music. I like their concept of half and full portions so order can be placed according to the necessity.
The dessert options are good but I feel it can be widened. Service is ok and would be nice if improved..
Overall yummy food at affordable cost. Evening well spent.
